a wildflower

Sometimes we can walk into an open field and meander through its beauty

and leave inspired by God’s artistry.

Other times we can walk into the same field unable to notice the beauty

because of our own pre-occupations and leave.

Then, one day we walk into the same open field

and a wild flower catches our eyes.

Its bloom, its fragrance – its uniqueness is like no other in the field.

It reaches toward the sky a little higher

than the surrounding flowers.

Butterflies frolic around it

and bees court it.

Yet with all the attention the flower quietly blooms oblivious of its own energy.

It is the rest of nature that rejoices in such a presence.

We leave the field different

because of the appearance of such a simple flower.

Once in awhile on this life journey,

as we venture through our own open fields,

we are blessed when we experience such a wild flower in our lives.

As I continue on my journey,

I depart this particular open field over-flowing with joy

because of a wonderful gift of a special friend -

inspired by God’s love and artistry.
